We are based in the northern San Francisco Bay Area and operate with a technical staff of about 25 Engineers, Geologists and Technicians. We are seeking exceptional, experienced Engineers to collaborate in achieving these goals.      

Job Description

As a Staff Engineer, you will work under the supervision of Project Managers to support a wide variety of projects throughout the Bay Area. Staff Engineers may be based in our Novato or Petaluma offices and typically split time between field and office work, with an initial emphasis on laboratory and field services. With increasing experience, Staff Engineers may assist with report preparation, design analyses, and preparation of construction drawings and documents. Job responsibilities typically include:

  • Perform laboratory testing including compaction curves, sieve analyses, unconfined compression, Atterberg Limits, moisture-density, moisture content, Expansion Index, among others, in accordance with ASTM standards.
  • Supervise exploratory drilling operations including collection of necessary samples, preparation of field boring logs, and inspection coordination.
  • Construction observation and testing including pier, tieback, and soil nail drilling, shallow foundation observations, material testing, and site grading observations.
  • Prepare boring logs, supporting graphics and design drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Evaluate field and laboratory data and assist with geotechnical analyses.
  • Assist Project, Senior, Associate, and Principal Engineers in preparing reports, specifications, plans, and other technical documents.

  • Strong sense of personal expertise limits, geotechnical consultant role limitations, and attention to loss prevention and liability considerations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, and other common software.
  • Organized work approach with the ability to adapt and adjust priorities based on client needs and project schedules.
  • Willing to pursue certifications for nuclear gauge testing and ACI concrete inspection upon hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to jobsites throughout the greater Bay Area as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods on rough or uneven terrain.
  • Ability to adhere to all Company, OSHA, and jobsite policies regarding personnel health and safety.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Holds a BS Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent degree or will obtain one in the coming six months.
  • Organized work approach with the ability to adapt and adjust as required to support the project’s current needs.
  • Maintains valid driver’s license and a vehicle to transport supplies/equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ engineering work experience in an increasingly responsible role.
  • Holds a valid EIT Certificate or plans to take certification test within six months.
  • Familiarity with USCS soil classifications, common ASTM geotechnical soil testing standards, and common geotechnical concepts and practices for grading/compaction, foundation design and construction, and retaining wall design and construction.
  • Active participation in relevant professional or civic organizations.
