Position Overview:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in Geotechnical Engineering. The appointment will commence in Fall 2025. We seek candidates with a strong record of laboratory-based teaching and research experience. The ideal candidate will contribute to our academic programs through effective teaching, innovative research, and active participation in departmental and university activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including those with significant laboratory components.
  • Engage in high-quality scholarly and creative work that aligns with the tenure and promotion requirements of the university.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering through active participation in departmental meetings, committees, and other activities.
  • Provide academic advising to students and mentor them through their educational and professional development.
  • Participate in service to the university and professional communities, including engaging in outreach activities and fostering collaborations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Proven ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses effectively, including laboratory-based courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
  • Strong potential for incorporating technology into teaching and research methodologies.
  • A robust record of scholarly accomplishments, with high-quality peer-reviewed publications within the past five years.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop an independent research program with external funding, involving both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Substantial laboratory-based research experience.
  • Ability and willingness to promote student success through research, mentorship, advising, and engagement in high-impact practices.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or a clear commitment to obtaining it within five years of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching at the university level in Civil Engineering, with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in pursuing and securing externally funded research projects.
  • Significant post-baccalaureate professional work experience in the field of Civil Engineering.

The M.S. in Environmental Engineering is ranked 30th nationally and 3rd in California among online programs, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Compensation:
The salary range for the Assistant Professor position is $5,925 to $12,594 per month, with an anticipated hiring range of $8,233 to $8,394 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
