Laboratory Manager

Position Summary:

Geocon West, Inc. is seeking a motivated and experienced Laboratory Manager to support our Burbank (Los Angeles) location. This role is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, scheduling and supervising laboratory technicians, ensuring test quality and compliance, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and committed to quality and client service.

 

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required

Experience: Minimum 5 years of laboratory or related experience

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform and oversee laboratory testing in accordance with certification requirements

- Prioritizing, assigning duties to technicians and self, help keeping staff engaged and as efficient as possible

- Duties to assign include: lab testing, data entry, equipment calibration, warehouse / lab cleaning and sample disposal / ring cleaning

- Review laboratory test results and ensure accuracy and quality control

- Train and mentor laboratory technicians

- Assist with lab testing and questions

- Communicate with engineering staff and project personnel as needed

- Communicate with regional lab manager to balance workload with other labs as needed

- Assist regional lab manager with preparing and maintaining the required certifications and ensure laboratory certifications remain current (AASHTO, CCRL, CALTRANS,  DSA-LEA, USACE)

- Perform testing during onsite assessments

- Prepare and perform PSP tests (AASHTO & CCRL) and RSP test (Caltrans)

- Monitor and order laboratory supplies and materials

- Support occasional field tasks, including sample collection

 

Required Certifications:

Must obtain and maintain applicable laboratory and technician certifications, which may include but are not limited to:

- ACI Field Testing Technician

- ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician

- ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1 (AGG1)

- ACI Laboratory Technician Level 1

- ACI Base Testing Technician

- Caltrans JTCP Soils & Aggregate

- ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 2 (AGG2)

- ACI Masonry Field Testing Technician

- ACI Masonry Lab Testing Technician

- ACI Laboratory Technician Level 2

 

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds

 

Schedule:

- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

- Additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines
