As an employee-owned firm founded in 1989, we focus on providing a variety of public and private clients with services that include geologic hazard evaluations, geotechnical exploration and testing, instrumentation and monitoring, geo-civil design of retaining structures and landslide repairs, construction monitoring and materials testing. We are based in the northern San Francisco Bay Area and operate with a technical staff of about 25 Engineers, Geologists and Technicians. Job Description

As a Project Engineer, you will manage a number of routine geotechnical projects and work on more complex projects under the supervision of the Principal, Associate and Senior Engineers. The preferred candidate will primarily manage projects in the Marin, Sonoma, or Napa County areas for both public and private clients and be responsible for all phases of work from proposal preparation to project closeout, either independently or in collaboration with other Senior/Associate level personnel. This position could be based in our Novato or Petaluma offices. Job responsibilities typically include:

• Preparation of proposals, budget estimates, project schedules.
• Assist with project highlights, and Statements of Qualifications (SOQ).
• Assist with design and execution of subsurface data collection, laboratory testing, and geotechnical instrumentation/monitoring.
• Performance of geotechnical analyses for seismic design, liquefaction/lateral spreading, slope stability, settlement, and other relevant hazards.
• Development of conceptual feasible options for mitigation of unique geologic hazards including seismic shaking, liquefaction, slope instability, expansive soils, and others.
• Development of geotechnical criteria and recommendations for seismic design, site grading/earthwork, foundation design, retaining wall design, subsurface drainage, and other geotechnical project components.
• Assist in Geotechnical review of Civil, Structural, and other relevant project plans.
• Supervision of geotechnical observation and testing activities during construction.
• Assist in response to peer-review comments, RFI’s, and other requests for geotechnical consultation with clients, design professionals, and third-party reviewers and regulators.
• Preparation of technical reports, supporting graphics, and other project documentation, including feasibility- and design-level geotechnical studies and data reports, plan review letters, observation and testing summary letters, scope/budget addenda, and others.
• Supervision, mentorship, and review of work product by Staff-level personnel.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to jobsites throughout the greater Bay Area as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods on rough or uneven terrain.
• Ability to adhere to all Company, OSHA, and jobsite policies regarding personnel health and safety.

Minimum Qualifications

• Holds a BS Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Holds a valid EIT Certificate with plans for obtaining Professional Engineer Licensure within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum of 4 years’ engineering work experience in an increasingly responsible role.
• Familiar with common design codes and standards, including the California Building Code (CBC), ASCE, ACI, AASHTO, and Caltrans.
• Organized work approach with the ability to adapt and adjust as required to support the project’s current needs.
• Maintains valid driver’s license and a vehicle to occasionally transport supplies/equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Holds a valid Professional Engineering (PE) license in the state of California.
• Minimum of 6-years’ engineering work experience in an increasingly responsible role.
• Familiarity with (highly variable) geologic and geotechnical conditions in the Bay Area.
• Experience with relevant geotechnical analyses using common software (Rocscience, Cliq, L-PILE, Shoring Suite, RetainPro, etc.) for geologic hazards and deep foundation design).
• Experience with design of retaining structures and rehabilitation systems, including soldier-pile, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, soil nails, and tiebacks.
• Familiarity with common professional services contract terms and language.
• Active participation in relevant professional or civic organizations.
