Project Engineer/Senior Staff Engineer

Rock Solid Geotechnical, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer/Senior Staff Engineer to join our growing Southern California practice.

We are a small geotechnical and engineering geology firm specializing primarily in residential and hillside projects throughout coastal Orange County and surrounding areas. Our work includes geotechnical investigations, slope stability evaluations, retaining walls, deep foundations, construction observation, and a variety of challenging hillside and coastal projects.

We are looking for someone with approximately 3–5 years of geotechnical engineering experience who is ready to take greater ownership of projects. EIT certification is required at minimum, with the successful candidate actively working toward California PE/RCE licensure.

The right person for this position will be a strong technical writer who understands the complete geotechnical project process—not simply one portion of it. Responsibilities will include preparing proposals; planning and coordinating field investigations; reviewing field and laboratory data; performing geotechnical analyses; preparing reports, technical letters, and responses to agency review comments; coordinating with clients, architects, structural and civil engineers; and providing construction-phase geotechnical support.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who can take ownership of a project from proposal through completion with limited oversight. This position is well suited to an engineer who has developed a solid technical foundation and is ready to move into a more independent project-management role while still having access to senior engineering and engineering geology support.

Experience with Southern California residential development, hillside construction, retaining walls, slope stability, deep foundations, and geotechnical construction observation is preferred.

Rock Solid is a small firm, so this is not a narrowly defined position. The person joining us will have direct involvement in projects, clients, field decisions, engineering, and report preparation and will have an opportunity to grow with the company.

Qualifications include:

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline
• Approximately 3–5 years of geotechnical engineering experience
• EIT certification required
• Working toward California PE/RCE licensure
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when senior input is needed
• Southern California geotechnical experience preferred
